Here’s a new article from Engadget Mobile

You thought about shipping off to Warsaw for the Imagine Cup 2010 finals, didn’t you? ‘Tis a shame you didn’t, because Microsoft is fixing to hand out Windows Phone 7 prototypes to every last finalist at the show (around 400, we’re hearing). The winning team has already received their handsets after receiving a mighty round of applause from developing Beastware, and while it’s impossible to tell from images so far, the phones that they acquired look to be the same as the Samsung device we toyed with back in June

WASHINGTON: The top U.S. general in Afghanistan says the Taliban — up to 27,000 fighters in the country’’s south — is his main focus, Geo news reported.
Gen. Stanley McChrystal says the insurgents are effective because they can dictate terms to the local population on the largely Pashtun area. The Taliban stronghold area will be the focus of the new U.S. surge of 30,000 forces.
But McChrystal told Congress on Tuesday that he is also focused on a separate enemy in Afghanistan.
The Haqqani (Huh-KHAN-ee) network of fighters are Afghans who direct the fight against U.S. forces in eastern Afghanistan from the Waziristan tribal region in Pakistan.
McChrystal said that if the Pakistan government became “intolerant” of the Haqqani network on its side of the border, his forces in Afghanistan could finish off the al-Qaida linked group.

Enterprising Chinese have had access to BlackBerrys for some time now, but they’ve been met with limited sales for many of the same reasons that internationally successful products often fail in China: high prices, cheap clones, and a general lack of understanding of the local market’s needs and behaviors. RIM, like any smart manufacturer, would love to find a way to effectively tap into the market, though — and they’re trying to make headway today on news that they’ve partnered with number one carrier China Mobile on customized devices. By “customized,” we mean that these bad boys will support TD-SCDMA, which is China Mobile’s proprietary 3G tech — probably the only carrier in the world that could get away with that, thanks to its nine-figure subscriber count — and will be offered through local distributor Digital China, whose market expertise RIM is hoping to capitalize. The silver bullet here might be the fact that China Mobile has committed to subsidizing the handsets; China is a huge prepaid market, but if they can get ‘em cheap enough, they could have a shot.

It may look a lot like the General Mobile DSTL1, but SciPhone’s N21 still has its very own soul. Our BFFs over at Engadget Chinese were able to wrangle one in, and naturally they took the opportunity to score a photo shoot and host it for the world to see. There aren’t too many surprises to be found, but if you’re looking for a pinch of KIRF, twin SIM slots, a 5 megapixel camera and the not-exactly-newest version of Google’s mobile operating system, you know where to look.

Looks like quite a few folks have got their hands on the Acer Liquid as of late, and lucky for us they’ve been rather loose-lipped with their thoughts on the subject. As suspected, the handset is running a 1GHz Snapdragon that’s been under-clocked to 768MHz. And it looks like Acer didn’t go crazy with the User Experience either, pretty much staying true to its Google Android 1.6 roots, albeit with a number of additions, including: social networking integration (Facebook and Flickr contacts and photo sharing), nemoPlayer for multimedia files, DataViz for Microsoft Exchange support, and the Spinlets music streaming service. In addition, Acer has redesigned some of the widgets, including the clock and the task manager, which now includes a preview of open apps. All-in-all, it seems to be a pretty solid Android handset with a few useful additions — but as always, the verdict is out until we get our hands on one. In the meantime, hit up the read links below for a generous helping of screenshots, hands-on pics, and impressions.

It’s not often that a manufacturer pushes a Windows Mobile version bump in a timely fashion, so color us impressed to see that Samsung has now released an official 6.5 upgrade for the Jack on AT&T. 6.5 is a relatively minor bump over 6.1 in the non-touch Standard world — Professional devices are getting the lion’s share of improvements — but users will be happy to find that they’re getting an updated Internet Explorer Mobile, Windows Marketplace access, and automated free connections to AT&T WiFi hotspots (anything to offload cellular strain, right?). Grab it now from Samsung’s site, make sure your battery’s charged, and let ‘er rip.
