The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) witnessed a mixed trend on Thursday and 100-index maintained the level of 9,700 points.
In spite of uncertain financial situation, the market started with positive note due to better expectations about leverage product. Market also went under pressure due to profit-taking. At the end of the day, KSE closed at 9,762 points with an increase of 27 points. Business volume remained 4.5 crore shares. Hub Power remained the market leader as its price increased by 14 points.
KSE remains mixed, closes above 9,700 points level was first posted on September 2, 2010 at 9:04 am.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) released Rs 25.10 billion to commercial banks in order to overcome liquidity crunch in the money market.
SBP conducted open market operation to repurchase Pakistan Investment Bonds (PIB) and Treasury Bills (T-Bills).
SBP received offers worth Rs 28.90 billion. The other day, the bank injected Rs32.65 billion into the market. The repurchased PIBs and T-Bills were termed for seven days and had mark up of 12.25 percent.

Due to financial crunch and unavailability of leverage product, business volume of the Karachi Stock Market plummeted to its lowest level in August in last 9 years. According to Topline research report, average business volume remained 5.70 crore shares in August. It is interesting to note that the market has seen shares trading of worth more than $2 billion on a single day of March 9, 2005. While in August 2010, shares of worth $ 58.10 crore were traded.
